Despicable Me, Minion cake

A good friend and neighbor was having a birthday party for her son Gage and was doing a "minion" party. For those of you who don't know what a minion is, they are the little yellow funny guys on Despicable Me.
ANYWAYS....
she heard from another friend of mine that I like to make cakes, and I really do. So when she asked if I would be willing/able to make a "minion cake" for her, I was pretty much super excited!
So here it is... I love how it turned out!

  1. Hi Meg,

I would like to do a similar cake for my dear friend who loves minions, I was thinking of doing it from a 13x9 rectangular pan and some fondant. Any specifics on how you made this adorable cake :) any details would be greatly appreciated :)

    1. Yeah that is exactly what I did. I made the cake in the 13x9 rectangle pan and then after it cooled I took it out and cut off the corners so they would be rounded and shaped like a minion. Then I frosted the cake with buttercream frosting and then the fondant. I made and colored the fondant myself just using an easy marshmellow fondant recipe I found online. I wish I knew exactly where to find that recipe but I'm sorry I can't remember where I found it at. You can also buy fondant pre - made and I have done that before. Store bought fondant is super easy to work with and if you have never done fondant before I would use the store bought kind. You could probably do this whole cake with one box of fondant from the store.
That is pretty much it. :) if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
Thanks for looking and I'm glad you like it. :)
